Timothy J. Kozel
Mr. Kozel graduated from Duke University School of Law in 1979, earning a J.D. with honors. He earned his B. A in Political Science with honors in 1975 from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). Mr. Kozel was admitted to the Bar in California in December of 1979.
He practiced from 1979 -1981 with the firm of Overton, Lyman & Prince in Los Angeles. His practice emphasized general tort liability and professional malpractice defense. From 1981 to 1985, Mr. Kozel was a senior attorney at the Law Offices of Roswell Bottum. He was a managing attorney with the firm as it expanded from 5 to 25 lawyers. His practice emphasized representation of attorneys, doctors, accountants, architects, real estate brokers, engineers, and other professionals, as well as insurers and their insureds in a variety of types of tort claims.
From 1985 to 1988, Mr. Kozel practiced as a sole practitioner at the Law Offices of Timothy J. Kozel. The emphasis of his practice remained the same. In 1989, Mr. Kozel and Nancy Rady founded the firm of Kozel & Rady, opening its office in San Diego County.
Mr. Kozel is a member of the State Bar of California and the San Diego County Bar Association. He has served on the San Diego County Bar Association’s Legal Ethics and Unlawful Practice and Continuing Education Committees and the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Lawyers' Professional Liability. He has been a faculty member for National Institute for Trial Advocacy, a panelist for continuing education programs and has spoken to local Bar Associations and insurance groups on issues of insurance, professional malpractice and ethics.
NANCY L. RADY
Ms. Rady graduated from the University of San Diego in 1977 with a J.D., and from United States International University with a B.A. in English in 1969. Ms. Rady completed a fifth year of classes and received a California teaching credential.
From December 1977 through December 1979, Ms. Rady practiced general civil litigation, with an emphasis on plaintiff personal injury litigation with the firm of Schermer and Rand in Los Angeles. From 1979 through 1983, Ms. Rady was an associate in the Los Angeles office of Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold. Her practice included substantial products liability litigation, truck and auto accident litigation, construction defect litigation, medical malpractice defense and insurance coverage litigation.
From 1983 through 1989, Ms. Rady was a senior attorney and then partner with the Law Office of Roswell Bottum, which subsequently became Bottum, Rady & Feliton. Ms. Rady was the managing partner of that 25-attorney firm. Her practice emphasized professional liability litigation, and officer’s and director’s liability, as well as significant tort litigation and insurance coverage analysis. In 1989, Ms. Rady left the firm of Bottum, Rady & Feliton to found the firm of Kozel & Rady with Timothy Kozel. in San Diego County.
Ms. Rady is a member of the State Bar of California and the San Diego County Bar Association. She has served on the San Diego County Bar Association’s Legal Ethics and Unlawful Practice and the Continuing Education Committees. She has spoken to local bar associations and law school classes on legal malpractice and legal ethics. Ms. Rady has served as a board member and officer of several educational foundations and other non-profits in San Diego County.
